June 25: International Day of the Seafarer - Sailors, the unsung Heroes of Global Trade

Hello children, do you know the importance of the sailors? Come, let’s see their service to the humanity.

A seafarer is a person who works on the sea. He works on a ship, boat or any other Marine vessel. This includes merchant ships (cargo vessels, tanker and container ships) passenger ships and fishing vessels and more.

Their working nature is different from others. They live on the ship for many months, far away from their homes and families. They make sure the ship stays safe, sails in the right direction, and that all the stuff on board gets to where it needs to go.

Sailors are the unsung Heroes of the Global trade. They are responsible for transporting approximately 90% of the world's goods. They transport food, medicine, raw materials, and fuel. Without them the global economy would not flourish.

The sailors work hard for long hours to keep the ship running and the cargo safe. Even though there are other people on the ship, it's a small group. They might feel a bit alone because they're far from everyone else they know.

They face dangers on their voyage. Sometimes the ocean gets really rough with huge waves and strong winds. It can be scary and make the ship move a lot, like a roller coaster that never stops. They may get sick due to bad weather. They may face pirates attack . This is very dangerous and scary for the seafarers.

The International Day of the sea farer is celebrated annually on June 25. It was established by the International Maritime organisation. The purpose of celebrating this day is to recognise and appreciate sailors contribution to the Global trade and the challenge they face on the sea. On this particular day we should thank the great service done by the seafarer and acknowledge their service.
