There would always be some quarrels, heated arguments, competition and fights between the twins Ranjana and Sanjana. At the same time, they would also dance harmoniously together and present awesome dance numbers.
Subalakshmi was the aunty of the twins. She was getting married. It was the mehndi function day. Relatives reached the venue very early in the morning.
There were some traditional events in the morning. Subalakshmi looked grand in a silk saree. The lunch was also rich and tasty. Then, it was time for rest for one or two hours.
Prema, mother of Ranjana and Sanjana was in the room allotted for their stay. She checked the dress and accessories to be worn for the mehndi function. Then, she left the room on some errand.
The dress and jewels that Ranjana and Sanjana were going to wear were on the bed. The skirts were of the same colour, beautiful rich orange colour. Blue colour blouse for Sanjana and dark green colour for Ranjana.
A cute stone-studded sling bag, matching to the colour of the blouse was also a part of the dress. Deepan, brother of the twins was fond of that bag with glittering stones.
Deepan took the bag of Sanjana and started playing with it. He tried to pull out the stones.
“Deepu, don’t take it. Give it to me.”
Sanjana grabbed the bag from his hands. Deepan held it tight. On the other side, Sanjana pulled the bag hard. It was like a tug of war contest. The cute bag gave away and got torn. Deepan and Sanjana fell down.
“Hey! Your bag is torn. Ha, ha! I will wear my dress with the cute bag...” Ranjana clapped her hands and jumped.
“Oh, so bad, my bag is torn and you irritate me! I will not dance at all. You dance alone,” shouted Sanjana.
“What happened? Why are both of you fighting?” asked Prema as she entered the room.
She lifted Deepan and tried to pacify him.
“Sanju, the dress will look good without the bag also. Why do you say that you will not dance?" asked the mother.
“Ranju will have a bag. But me…?”, Sanjana wept.
“Ranjana, you also keep the bag away. No need to wear it,” said mother.
“No, I will dance with the bag only”, declared Ranjana.
“Amma, let her dance separately. I will dance alone,”said Sanjana.
“Both of you need not dance. Come on, take this plain gown. This is enough for both of you to just attend the function. I will inform the DJ not to play your song."
Prema looked stern and left the room along with Deepan.
Sanju and Ranju looked at each other.
How many rehearsals? How much hype for this day? Will all that go waste?
“Ranju, you wear the choli with the bag. I will dance without that bag,” said Sanjana in a low voice.
“No, Sanju, I will keep away the bag.”
Both of them held each other’s hands.
“Nothing should stop our dance.” Both shouted together and rushed out of the room.
“Ma… We will dance together...”
Mom turned back and came towards them.
“Then, Ranjana’s bag?”
Ranjana gave her bag to Deepan.
The twins swirled and twisted in the mehndi function of their aunty.
Nothing could stop their dance as well the cheering claps of the guests.
